IDEA - Least Restrictive Environment
Maintain and strengthen the Continuum of Alternative Placements and Services for students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act to ensure that appropriate placement and service options that are based on the individual needs of each child remain a viable option for students with disabilities.
Work to ensure that education appropriations for special education and training programs are maintained and advanced to appropriately address the needs of children, and adults with disabilities.
Restraint and Seclusion
Ensure that appropriate restraint and seclusion responses remain available for special education teachers, child care workers and specialists to address behavioral issues for students with disabilities. Ensure that appropriate, continual training is utilized and required for staff who work with individuals with disabilities to ensure that both staff and individuals are safe and free from harm.
Elementary and Secondary Education Act
Work to ensure that the provisions of ESEA do not prohibit private special education programs from appropriately serving students with disabilities. Work to improve assessments of students with disabilities by ensuring assessments provide accommodations that appropriately address individual student abilities.
US Department of Education
Work to ensure that the Department educates States, Local Education Agencies, Schools and families on what is required by law and through regulations to appropriately implement the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
